Project Overview

In June, Brasfield & Gorrie brought Wright Construction’s Nashville Division onto The Truth, Live Nation’s new concert venue on Chestnut Street, to complete the concrete site package late in the construction schedule. The scope covered sidewalks, curbing, and concrete paving, along with colored concrete marking a bike lane along Chestnut Street, a small retaining wall built against the concrete paving, and a raised intersection installed while the surrounding streets were closed to traffic. Wright had four days to review the plans, build a schedule, and reassign crews to fully staff the job. The team met every milestone, finished every scope on time with minimal remediation, and completed the schedule with time to spare.

About The Truth and Wedgewood Village
Live Nation built The Truth as a 4,400-capacity indoor music venue in Nashville’s Wedgewood Houston neighborhood. The venue occupies a 109,000-square-foot, four-story building at 440 Chestnut St., and AJ Capital Partners developed the site as part of its multi-building Wedgewood Village project. The venue’s name comes from songwriter Harlan Howard’s line that a good country song needs three chords and the truth, and the building includes balcony seating, standing room on the floor, a mezzanine whiskey bar called Harlan’s, and a two-story indoor and outdoor lounge called the Vinyl Room.

The project carried weight well beyond the building itself. Nashville’s mayor held a press conference in front of the new venue to underscore its importance to the music business and to the revitalized neighborhood around it. Projections put The Truth’s annual economic impact for Nashville at $74 million, with roughly 430 supported jobs and $6 million in state and local tax revenue. The venue opened on October 1, and Miranda Lambert played the first show to a sold-out crowd.

Why This Site Concrete Mattered
Wright’s work formed the literal front door of the venue, and every piece of it had to perform for crowds on day one. The Truth has very limited parking of its own and relies heavily on paid lots and street parking in the surrounding area, so thousands of concertgoers arrive on foot. Sidewalks, curbing, and concrete paving at the entrance carry that foot traffic before and after every show.

The raised intersection serves the same purpose at street level. A raised intersection lifts the entire crossing up to sidewalk height, which slows vehicles and gives pedestrians a level, continuous path across the street. Building one requires precise grades and elevations so that water drains correctly and vehicles transition smoothly on all approaches. Wright spent several days planning the work and completed it within a four-day window while the streets were closed, which kept the disruption to neighbors and businesses as short as possible.

The colored concrete bike lane along Chestnut Street gives cyclists a clearly marked route that drivers can see at a glance, and integral color holds up better than painted markings under daily traffic. The small retaining wall built tight against the concrete paving required careful sequencing so the wall and the adjacent paving tied together cleanly at final grade.

Project Execution
Wright mobilized on a compressed schedule with no room for a slow start. The Nashville team reviewed the plans, built a work plan, and coordinated with Brasfield & Gorrie on expectations in four days, then shifted local crews to staff the job at full strength. A Brasfield & Gorrie project manager said the concrete scope had been a major concern until Wright arrived on site. After about a week of Wright’s work, the concrete scope no longer came up as a worry in their office. Wright completed every scope on schedule, met each milestone, and finished with time to spare ahead of the venue’s opening.

Team Recognition
Luke Napier secured the job with Brasfield & Gorrie and worked alongside Pete Hansen to plan and run the project. Their coordination turned a late-stage handoff into an on-time finish, and the customer told Wright that the team exceeded expectations on both schedule and quality.

Impact on Wedgewood Houston
Wedgewood Houston has grown into one of Nashville’s busiest destinations for music, art, and dining. The concrete work at The Truth gives the neighborhood a safer, more walkable entrance to its newest landmark, with a pedestrian-first intersection and a dedicated bike lane that serve residents every day of the week, not just on show nights.
