Project Overview

Wright Construction was selected to complete a large-scale asphalt maintenance project for Under Armour at its distribution facility in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee. The job included 378,000 square feet of sealcoating and 26,000 linear feet of crackfill across the facility’s pavement. Led by Chris Mitacek, the project team developed a phasing plan that balanced efficiency with minimal disruption to Under Armour’s daily operations. With support from Wright’s sealcoating crew and partner contractor Randy S. Mundy Asphalt & Sealcoating handling striping, the team completed the work ahead of schedule, under budget, and with exceptional results.

About Under Armour’s Mt. Juliet Facility

Under Armour operates a one million square foot distribution and warehouse facility in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, its third distribution center in the United States alongside facilities in Baltimore, Maryland and Rialto, California. The company invested more than $100 million in the Mt. Juliet facility and planned to create 1,500 jobs in Wilson County over five years. The building features more than 12 miles of conveyor systems, automated receiving technology, and voice-directed picking software, supporting Under Armour’s ability to move product quickly to major retail partners.

The facility’s location near Interstate 40 and its proximity to major shipping ports allow Under Armour to shave significant time off delivery to large clients, making the site a critical link in the company’s national distribution network. A facility processing this volume of freight traffic around the clock puts substantial daily stress on its surrounding pavement.

Why Asphalt Maintenance Matters for a Facility of This Scale

A distribution center the size of Under Armour’s Mt. Juliet facility sees constant tractor-trailer traffic moving inbound and outbound freight across its yard and loading areas. That volume of heavy vehicle traffic accelerates pavement wear, particularly through cracking caused by weather exposure, ground movement, and repeated heavy loads. Left unaddressed, cracks allow water infiltration that weakens the base beneath the asphalt, leading to potholes and more costly structural repairs over time.

Sealcoating protects the pavement surface from UV damage, oxidation, and water penetration, extending the asphalt’s usable life and maintaining a smooth, professional appearance across the site. Crackfill addresses existing cracks before they widen and spread, stopping deterioration before it requires a full mill and repave. Performing this maintenance proactively, rather than waiting for major pavement failure, protects Under Armour’s investment in its site infrastructure and helps avoid the operational disruption that comes with larger-scale repairs down the road.

Project Execution

Chris Mitacek led the project team in developing a phasing plan that sequenced the sealcoating and crackfill work across the facility without interrupting Under Armour’s daily distribution operations. With a site this large and this active, coordinating the work around ongoing truck traffic and loading dock activity required careful planning to keep both the project and the client’s operations moving. Wright’s sealcoating crew handled the bulk of the maintenance scope, while partner contractor Randy S. Mundy Asphalt & Sealcoating managed striping to finish the project. The team completed the full scope ahead of schedule and under budget.

Impact on the Business

Proactive pavement maintenance keeps Under Armour’s Mt. Juliet distribution center running at full capacity without the disruption that comes from unplanned pavement failure. For a facility responsible for moving product to major retail partners across the country, reliable site infrastructure directly supports the company’s ability to meet delivery timelines and keep operations running smoothly.

Client Testimonial

“I wanted to reach out to you after a recent visit to conduct site inspections in the Nashville area. While in town, I was able to meet with our 4 local tenants, 3 of which have had lot projects managed by Chris Mitacek in recent months. I wanted you to know, personally, that each one of these tenant contacts sung the praises of Wright Construction, and most especially, Chris.

I know when I started with Clarion a couple of years ago we were discussing a striping project at 500 Duke that didn’t go exactly to plan. Chris stepped up and made everything right and since then has been diligent in his pricing and project management from a property management perspective and has continued to provide exemplary service. His dedication has factored greatly into how we award our projects.”
